Because Swimming Pool Leak Detection is our specialty, the professionals at Atlantic Leak Detection are experts in locating and repairing pool leaks. We perform year-round leak location and repair of all pools using a modern State of the Art electronic leak-locating device along with visual verification through scuba diving. Your pool does not need to be drained to be repaired, and because we are a small, locally-owned business we can get the job done faster and cheaper than the other big companies and national franchises.
Leaks are costly due to the constant need to add more water and chemicals to your pool. For pools with liners, it’s absolutely critical to maintain the water level because it holds the liner in place. If the water gets too low the liner will begin to shrink and shift which may cause permanent damage from wrinkles and stress points in the corners, edges, and around plumbing openings. This greatly reduces the life of your pool liner and may lead to a catastrophic liner failure.
Never allow a pool with a liner to drain empty or you may need to replace the liner!
It’s equally critical to maintain the water level in your concrete pool. If the water in a concrete pool gets too low in the winter, it may cause structural cracking and it could potentially lift out of the ground. Keep in mind that leaks in swimming pools are almost inevitable at some point and are usually easily repaired.

Leaks vs. Evaporation
It’s fairly obvious when you have a leak because of the noticeable daily water loss from your pool. Sometimes this may be so slight that it can be hard to tell if it’s a leak or just evaporation. A general rule is to expect about 1”-2” inch of water loss per week in a pool that does not have a solar cover. Keep in mind that the evaporation rate will be greater when the water and air temperatures are farther apart. An example of this would be in the late summer or fall, when the pool water temperature may still be in the 60’s or 70’s and you have a cool night in the 40’s and 50’s. You may see the pool “steaming” in the morning, and this is actually the evaporation process. In this case it’s possible to lose up to ¼ of an inch in a single night from evaporation!
