Methods / Technology
GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar)- Ground Penetrating Radar is currently the only non-destructive technology able to locate both non-metallic as well as metallic subsurface utilities. It is ideally suited for locating utilities including:
- Fiber Optic
EM Locating (Electromagnetic Locating)- Used to locate buried conductive metallic lines such as pipes, cables, and sewers. As a result, it can’t locate nonmetallic lines, such as plastic / poly pipe, transite pipe, clay pipe or fiber optic unless it is installed with tracer wires. EM technology works in all soil conditions and is best suited to locate wired subsurface utilities including:
- Any utility with tracer wire
FM Locating (Ferromagnetic Locating or Metal Detector)– This instrument is used to find any subsurface ferrous metal. We use it to confirm if an object located with our GPR such as a pipes / conduit or a buried oil tank is metallic. It is a simple and effective tool to find buried man hole covers and hidden street valves covered in asphalt.
